A chip or crack repair may be possible if the chip or crack is small, shallow and away from the edges of the glass. If the damage is large, deep or reaches the edge, a full windshield replacement is safer, because the strength and clarity the safety systems need may be compromised.

If it has lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control that uses a camera on the windshield, usually yes. Replacing the glass can move the camera out of alignment, and calibration restores it.

Glass damage is usually covered under comprehensive or glass coverage, and many insurers also cover the calibration. In North Carolina your comprehensive deductible applies unless your policy has full glass coverage. South Carolina law says the deductible does not apply to automobile safety glass on physical damage coverage. Confirm the details with your insurer.

OEM glass is made to the same specification as the glass the car left the factory with, including clarity, thickness, curve and the sensor mounts. Aftermarket glass may differ slightly in these details, which can matter for camera alignment. For cars with ADAS, glass that meets the manufacturer’s specification is especially important.

Avoid car washes until the adhesive has fully cured. Keep correct tire pressure, since ride height can affect sensor alignment. If an ADAS warning comes on or a system behaves oddly, call us to recheck the calibration.
